Portabella Mushroom and Swiss Diet Burger

Portabella and Swiss Diet Burger

Portabella and Swiss Diet Burger

OK, OK, now we are talking!  The biggest thing I used to hate about dieting (besides the lack of choices i foods and the lack of flavor), is the fact that there was not a real good burger out there that was not full of fat, calories and Sodium with a capital S.

So yesterday when I asked the kids what they wanted for dinner, they said “Cheeseburgers!”  I could hardly argue with that.  Of course, my youngest daughter said she wanted my cornmeal encrusted Talapia for her side dish, ha ha…but she quickly settles for potato wedges.

Here is a little data on the food I cooked with.

Portabella Mushrooms

  • serving size approximately 3oz.
  • 20 calories
  • 0g fat
  • 15mg sodium (I guess naturally occurring since these are fresh?)
  • 0mg cholesterol

Beef

  • serving size approximately 4oz. (I used a little less, 3.2oz burger patties, this yields five burgers from one pound)
  • 104 calories
  • 3.2g fat
  • 40mg sodium
  • 52mg cholesterol

Aunt Millies Eight-Grain Slimwich Bun

  • serving size 1 bun
  • 90 calories
  • 1g fat
  • 120mg sodium
  • 0mg cholesterol

Amish Country Amish Swiss Cheese

  • serving size 1oz (I used less, but the stats here are for 1oz)
  • 110 calories
  • 9g fat
  • 70mg sodium
  • 30mg cholesterol

This makes the Portabella Mushroom and Swiss Diet Burger with the following stats (minus ketchup and mustard)

  • serving size 1 beautiful burger
  • 324 calories
  • 13.2g fat
  • 245mg sodium
  • 82mg cholesterol

Now compare this to a McDonalds burger, which has the following;

  • serving size = far less than what they want you to believe
  • 740 calories (quarter pounder)
  • 42g fat
  • 1380mg sodium
  • 155mg cholesterol

Check out all of McDonalds fatness HERE on their website for the values of other foods they are killing you with.

You could eat two of my burgers, and still eat less calories, fat, sodium and cholesterol!

The added bonus with my burger is the portabella mushrooms have 9% (300mg) of the potassium you need daily (naturally occurring potassium, which is better for you than in vitamin form), and 1g of fiber per serving, which is 4% of the recommended daily allowance.

The potato wedges were made from Russets which also have 620mg of naturally occurring potassium (18% daily allowance) and 3g of protein!

If you want to cut calories even more, you could use sweet potatoes to make your fries, which are just as delicious!

For the fries, I simply chop them up, spray a little non-stick on a cookie sheet and bake at about 425 until they are crispy.

I cannot wait until we eat these burgers again!

enjoy!
